Cement route<\/h1>\n

The Parco delle Gole della Breggia is in a lovely area of the Mendrisio district, not far from Chiasso; until a few years ago, a cement factory was located in the centre of the park, which was operational until the 1980s. The cement manufactured in this plant was used to build roads, bridges, dams, public and private buildings throughout the Canton of Ticino. The cement plant, which closed down several years ago, was recently demolished and the site of its buildings has for the most part reverted to nature and been integrated into the Gole della Breggia GeoPark. Starting with a visit to the long tunnels dug into the hillside that borders the river Breggia, it is possible to follow the steps of the rock transformation process.<\/p>\n
